Curlyleaf Pond Weed

The second annual chemical treatment to eradicate curlyleaf pondweed in specific areas was completed in May.  Inspection of the areas after treatment indicates another good response.  It may be necessary to treat these areas for up to 5 years to assure the plant roots in the sediment are killed.  Again, this project was a joint effort of  the Lake Association and the Sanitary District.

The District was approved for a grant thru the DNR to study the effects of decomposing curlyleaf pondweed on internal phosphorous loading.  This project is in process and results will be available in late August.  Ecological Integrity of Amery is taking the lead on this project.
